In that case, a laptop with a broadband wireless network provider is what you need.
I will be in the market for a laptop in a few months but I have had a cheap national wireless network provider (in T-Mobile) with a T-mobile provided Sony Ericsson PCMCIA card that has worked good for those times I need network connectivity away from using office network & home.
The drawback is that it's still like dial-up in many respects but I only pay $29.99 monthly so it was/is a good bill to get, LOL.
Verizon's broadband (metro coverage) card are being used at my work location (by Army customers) and they are indeed the bomb. Faster connectivity and more locations but price-wise, yikes. I think it's more than $60 monthly, but hope it's only that.
If I get a laptop in a few months to replace my home desktop permanently, I would be getting that Verizon broadband service if it's reasonably priced ($60 or less). Otherwise, I'm happy with the slower $29.99 monthly thing from T-Mobile.

I didn't mention this but I have had the PCMCIA card from T-Mobile in 2 years and the coverage is still good for the price. It's most sketchy (if any coverage) whenever I'm a passenger in vehicles on roads that are between metro areas and/or near rivers/trees (where there are likely less strength).
I had learned not to play cash NL rings poker quickly about 1 1/2 years ago, LOL, when I was accused of not being responsive when I failed to call a raise to an Ace flush at turn when I also hit Queen flush, yikes. Ironically, nobody complained 10 minutes earlier when I disconnected after I pushed all-in with KK and not knowing that one did call (with QQ) and few minutes later, I find my table $$ doubled up, ha.
Anyway, I have used my T-Mobile PCMCIA card even on commuter trains where I saw I only had like less than 5 minutes to make a bet before game started, and I still was able to make the bet on the laptop (this was between Baltimore, MD, and Washington, DC).
So that's my extra cents worth of tidbits, grins.
